As we all know, the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is already becoming a public health crisis in many parts of the United States. One important component of slowing the rate of transmission is “social distancing”: avoiding close contact with other people, even before COVID-19 is known to be spreading in our community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick, which includes ALL people over the age of 60. The CDC recommends that older adults stay home as much as possible in the coming weeks to reduce their risk of being exposed to COVID-19. Out of concern for the health and safety of our senior population, we are cancelling all AFC on-site lunches and programs at least through March 31, 2020. The Brunch & Play outing for March 18 will be postponed to July. At the same time, we know that times of isolation and sickness are exactly when our seniors need social and nutritional support the most. Thus, the Adult Friendship Club will offer home meal delivery only to all AFC members, Mondays and Wednesdays from March 16 through March 30. Menu: Mon 3/16: Choice of turkey OR salami sandwich, coleslaw, chips, pickles, cookies Wed 3/18: Beef chili, cornbread, cookies Mon 3/23: Chicken casserole with rice & vegetables, brownies Wed 3/25: Spaghetti & meatballs, salad, garlic bread, cake Mon 3/30: Chicken stir-fry with rice & vegetables, cookies Please call the office by 10am on Monday 3/16 to place your orders for delivery. You may also leave a voicemail for Rachel over the weekend. Deliveries will be made between 12-2pm each day. The cost will be $8 per delivered meal. No money will be collected at time of delivery. We will track your orders and you may bring a check or cash once AFC resumes regularly scheduled meetings.
At this time, we have no information regarding the AFC Passover Seder scheduled for Wednesday, April 1. It remains to be seen how we will proceed for April and May. Plans will be announced as they unfold, based on the developing situation. We are here for you during this time of confusion and uncertainty. Please call the Federation office for any additional assistance we can offer you during this time. If you know someone who is immune-compromised or another senior who may need resources, please let us know how we can help. We wish continued good health and good spirits to every one of you and our surrounding community.
