Food for Thought Virtual Brunch Series 2020-2021
Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center—Virtual Exhibition Tour, “Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg” Introduction by Rosalie Levinson On October 18, we kicked off our Food for Thought season with a video tour of the Illinois Holocaust Museum’s “Notorious RBG” exhibit. While the Museum's program is proprietary, please enjoy this introduction by our own Rosalie Levinson, drawing on her decades of personal acquaintance with Justice Ginsburg.
|
|
Based on the New York Times bestselling book and Tumblr page of the same name, Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the first-ever museum exhibition focused solely on this judicial icon, whose image graces mugs, t-shirts, posters, and bobbleheads. The exhibit is a vibrant exploration of Justice Ginsburg’s life and her numerous, often simultaneous roles as a student, wife, mother, lawyer, judge, women’s rights pioneer, and Internet phenomenon. Briefs and other writings by RBG, including some of her famously searing dissents, are woven throughout the exhibit. |
The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (IHMEC) offers virtual "drop in" public Zoom tours of Notorious RBG. Tickets are $10. The in-person exhibition has also reopened, extended through January 3, 2021.

Film #1 & Talkback: They Ain’t Ready For Me
Online Screening: Oct. 4-7; Talkback (via Zoom): Thursday, Oct. 8 They Ain’t Ready for Me (2020; 89 mins) is the feature-length documentary about Tamar Manasseh, the vivacious African American rabbinical student who is leading the fight against senseless killings on the south side of Chicago. Tired of waiting for politicians to do something, Tamar did something simple yet revolutionary: she sat down on the corner and hasn’t left since. Tamar and the organization she founded, MASK, Mothers and Men Against Senseless Killings, are proving that something can be done, the situation is not hopeless. They Ain’t Ready For Me explores the challenges and motivations of this fearless community leader as she works to prevent more people from being killed by gun violence. It also highlights how her Judaism influences her activism. |
