October 4–7 saw Federation’s first installment of a Virtual Film Series with an online screening of the recently released documentary They Ain’t Ready for Me (2020, 89 mins). On Thursday evening, October 8, Carol Culberg moderated a talkback with the film’s subject, Chicago activist and rabbinical student Tamar Manasseh, along with filmmaker Brad Rothschild.

The talkback is available now to view on our VIrtual Programming page or on our YouTube channel.

Tamar exhibits a rare combination of the deeply spiritual and deeply practical, and it was a treat to get to know her. We look forward to collaborating with her in the future - and to witnessing her rabbinic ordination on December 12!
You can find out more about Tamar's work with MASK (Mothers/Men Against Senseless Killings) at MASK's official website, www.ontheblock.org. To donate to their Thanksgiving meal program, visit their GoFundMe page.
Our 2020–2021 Virtual Film Series is generously sponsored by Carol Culberg. The series will include 4 more virtual film selections starting in January 2021. Watch for upcoming schedule information at federationonline.org/film.

Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel
(2018; 86 minutes)

The David-and-Goliath story of Israel's national baseball team as it competes for the first time in the World Baseball Classic. After years of crushing defeats, Israel finally ranks among the world’s best in 2017. Its roster includes many Jewish-American major leaguers, most with a tenuous relationship to Judaism, barely any ever having set foot in Israel. Their odyssey takes them from the Holy Land, where they are hailed as modern-day Maccabees, to the tournament in South Korea where they must debunk their reputations as has-beens and wannabes. The connection to Israel that the players forge pushes them to unexpected heights as they represent the country on the world stage.

Part of a GLOBAL SCREENING EVENT for Yom HaShoah!
Film Screening & Discussion:  Who Will Write Our History
Thursday, May 2 • 7:00–9:00pm
Click below to watch the trailer...

In honor of Yom HaShoah, the Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana is pleased to host a special screening of this important documentary about a group of spiritual resisters who risked their lives so that the truth would survive, even if they did not.
In November 1940, days after the Nazis sealed 450,000 Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto, a secret band of journalists, scholars and community leaders decided to fight back. Led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name Oyneg Shabes, this clandestine group vowed to defeat Nazi lies and propaganda not with guns or fists but with pen and paper.

Now, for the first time, their story is told as a feature documentary. Written, produced and directed by Roberta Grossman and executive produced by Nancy Spielberg, Who Will Write Our History mixes the writings of the Oyneg Shabes archive with new interviews, rarely seen footage and stunning dramatizations to transport us inside the Ghetto and the lives of these courageous resistance fighters. They defied their murderous enemy with the ultimate weapon—the truth—and risked everything so that their archive would survive the war, even if they did not.
A discussion will follow, facilitated by Federation board member Carol Culberg.

Admission is FREE, but seating is limited. RSVP to (219) 301-0960 or online:
